"Refracted Rubies"

One of the things I try to do when I paint is to find areas that I can hone in on and paint with detail in contrast with others areas that are loose, free and downright messy. I tend to throw paint on a wet board to start, aiming to drop in areas that bloom and give me beautiful, spontaneous watermarks. Then, as I go along I try to find an area that I can dig into with detail. I think my most unsuccessful pieces are ones that are evenly detailed. Boring.
